Phoenix Pet Photographer Australian Shepard dogs

Well they aren’t quite puppies anymore, in fact my sweet girl is 6 and my old man is over 12. We call them our sheep LOL, they are Australian Shepards and have so much fur that we have to shave them down in the summer. Two to three times during the summer we shear our sheep ourselves, it saves over $100 each time but man it takes nearly the whole day! They’ve been mostly outdoor dogs after we had our oldest son but now that the boys can mostly hold their own against the accidental knock overs from bouncy dogs, they have been spending more and more time inside with us again. The boys love playing with Shelby but Rusty has gotten to be such an old man and would rather sleep.

Here’s Shelby, isn’t she purdy? She’s a black-tri and reminds me so much of my dad’s old dogs. She can run like the wind, she can catch birds mid-air and keep up with bicyclists much to their surprise. And I just found out she can jump high enough to peek over the 6 foot high fence and spy on the neighbors.

And my childhood pup, Rusty. He’s an unusually marked red merle, he reminds me of a redhead with freckles. Rusty was my birthday present in 8th grade, we spent the summers taking naps together and learning a handful of tricks, fetch wasn’t one of them-he was too good for it :) He loved to run but his hips have gotten stiff and now he just enjoys his naps again.

And now you know my dirty, dusty Aussie puppies. Want to come over and help give them a bath? ;)

You’d think that as a photographer I’d have tons of gorgeous pictures of my kids, sadly it’s the opposite. I spent so many hours practicing on them that they have no patience for me, they have what we call PCS or Photographer’s Child Syndrome. They go from posing to running away in a split second if I’m lucky enough for that. But it keeps me on my toes for all the other little ones that runaway from cameras!  I realized a couple days ago that I’ve really been slacking on that so I pulled out my camera while my oldest was at preschool, divide and conquer I say, and got a few of my 2yo. Of course he wanted them to be with his George (Curious George, his current love) but I’ll take what I can get.

After my 4yo came home, I sent his brother off to find something so I could take a few of him. He has no patience for me so I have to be quick, and even then he’s trying to run away.

Can you tell he was so over this?  ;)

I am pretty partial but I think they are the cutest little boys and have amazing eyes. And since I know someone will ask, no I did not Photoshop their eyes. In fact I did very little to these at all :) .

I love to cook, all kinds of food. My husband is always asking me to write down the recipes so he can help make dinner but I have no clue the real measurements of what I put in-a pinch of this, a handful of that, taste and throw some more in. I’m trying o get better about writing them down so I thought I should share them here too. *Everything I make has a dairy/egg intolerant child in mind but can be made normally*

Stuffed Peppers

serves 4-6
Prep time approx 35 min, Cook time 20 min

Ingredients:
6 good-sized bell peppers (I use green), preferably with a relatively flat bottom
1/2 yellow onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced or pressed
1 cup uncooked rice (I prefer long grain brown rice)
1 lb ground Italian sausage (can use ground beef but I think it lacks flavor)
1 can 16oz tomato sauce, separated
shredded cheese if you can eat it

Preparation:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Lightly spray baking dish oil (I use a fluted baking stone).
2. Follow cooking instructions for rice (I use a microwave rice cooker). Set aside.
3. Rinse peppers, cut the tops off, remove seeds and rinse the insides. Place in a large pot and cover with water and boil until tender (approx. 10-15 min). Drain and place in baking dish cut-side up.
4. Brown Italian sausage with chopped onion making sure to break sausage into small pieces. Add garlic right before finished cooking. Drain fat if necessary.
5. Mix cooked rice, sausage mixture, and half tomato sauce. Spoon into peppers and then spoon remaining tomato sauce on top.
6. Bake for 15-20 minutes until nice and hot. If adding shredded cheese on top, add 5 minutes before removing from oven to melt.
7. Serve and enjoy!

*can also use large cored and seeded tomatoes in place of peppers

Family is one of the most important parts of my life so why not start there, right?

Recently some of my extended family got together to visit with my cousin while he was on R&R from the front lines. I am so proud of him for what he does and who he is! It was so great to see him, meet the sweetheart in his life, see his cutie of a son and of course enjoy the hamburgers and hotdogs :) Doesn’t he look mischievious in this picture? (You guess which one I’m talking about)

He just cracked me up the way he looked at me from the side like that!

Whenever I get the chance, I try to catch a picture for just me, something that just makes me happy. I had a vision in my head of what I wanted but it was a challenge to translate it to real life. You see, my grandpa is really hard to photograph, at least the way I wanted to. He seems to avoid the camera, especially if he is the only person in the picture.  So I obliged and took a picture of grandpa and my mom to test my lighting and then I stood there and waited for the moment. The moment he looked away and forgot I had the camera. It was perfect, just the light from the ceiling fan in the darkened kitchen. In my mind it was black and white and powerful. It reminded me of the hard life he’s lived, working long hours to support his family first as a farmer and then a painter up until recently when his health forced him to quit. It reminded me of the loneliness he feels after losing his wife of over 50 years to ALS 4 years ago, the one that he spent every night sleeping next to and worked side by side with every day. And it reminded me of how much I love him even though I’ve had a hard time getting close to him.

The new blog is finally up! Take a look around and tell me what you think, there are still some small changes in the works so don’t mind the dust while it’s under construction.  I hope to be posting at least once a week so check back often for updates and an upcoming holiday special!
